Yersinia enterocolitica (Pasteurella x) in human enteric infections.

چکیده
Seven patients with fatal acute glomerulonephritis referred to a haemodialysis unit in a three-year period were between 53 and 78 years of age. The presenting features and natural history of acute glomerulonephritis in this age group often differ from those commonly seen in younger patients. The rarity of the disease in the middle-aged and elderly, coupled with the atypical presentation of most of the patients, made the clinical diagnosis difficult. The histological changes included necrosis of glomerular tufts, obliteration of Bowman's space by proliferation of the capsular epithelium, and endothelial proliferation with glomerular exudate. Renal biopsy is valuable in both establishing the diagnosis and assessing the severity of the disease, and so avoiding submission of patients with no hope of recovery to unnecessary treatment. We are grateful to Professor J. Anderson for permission to report these cases, and to Professor H. A. Magnus for his advice. The photomicrographs were prepared by Mr. George Harwood.

Polyarthritis associated with Yersinia enterocolitica infection. Clinical features and laboratory findings in nine cases with severe joint symptoms.
During the last few years it has become apparent that human infections due to Yersinia enterocolitica (formerly Pasteurella X) are relatively common in several countries (Nilehn, 1969; Simond, 1970; Von Noyen, Vandepitte, and Isebaert, 1970). Patients with this bacterial infection have shown various symptoms, such as fever, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, colic, headache, backache, arthralgia, and e...
متن کاملGene transfer in Pasteurella pestis harboring the F'Cm plasmid of Escherichia coli.
A strain of Pasteurella pestis, harboring the F'Cm plasmid from Escherichia coli, was able to donate its chromosome to auxotrophic recipient strains of P. pestis. The frequency of gene transfer in P. pestis was approximately 10(-6) per donor cell, 100 times less efficient than gene transfer in Pasteurella pseudotuberculosis, but efficient enough to determine entry times for the markers histidin...
متن کاملIdentification of OmpR protein and its role in the invasion properties of Yersinia enterocolitica.
Yersinia enterocolitica is a human pathogen that causes gastroenteric infections. Various environmental signals control the expression of the virulence factors in pathogenic Y. enterocolitica strains. OmpR, a global transcriptional regulator controls the expression of a wide spectrum of genes, some of which are required for virulence. In this study, we amplified, cloned and sequenced a Y. enter...
متن کاملYersinia enterocolitica infection in resistant and susceptible strains of mice.
We investigated natural resistance in mice to Yersinia enterocolitica, an enteric bacterial pathogen of humans, with a view to determine host genetic factors that are important in resistance. Most mouse strains studied (C3H/HeN, BALB/c, BALB.B, DBA/2, A, Swiss, and SWR) were highly susceptible to infection (50% lethal dose [LD50], 2 X 10(2) to 6 X 10(2) Y. enterocolitica administered intravenou...
